MMX, a mining company that is part of entrepreneur Eike Batista’s EBX Group, announced today (26/9) that it has filed the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the Environmental Impact Report (Rima) with the Rio de Janeiro State Environment Institute (Inea), regarding the expansion of the SudesteSuperport’s handling capacity to 100 million tons of iron ore per year.
Currently, the Sudeste Superport is being built in Itaguaí (RJ), with a handling capacity for 50 million tpy of iron ore. The filing of the EIA-RIMA is the first step towards environmental licensing for capacity expansion of the SudesteSuperport to 100 million tpy of iron ore.
MMX's strategic vision of the importance of access of Brazilian iron ore to the seaborne market led the Company to begin the process of doubling the capacity of the SudesteSuperport. In addition, the expansion of the SudesteSuperport will consolidate MMX’s position among the mining companies in the Iron Quadrangle of Minas Gerais.
